Natural Cheese
Natural cheese is made directly from milk rather than by blending two or more
cheeses together as it is done for process cheese. There are more than 500 natural varieties that come in
flavors ranging from mild and buttery, to sharp, full bodied or nutty –
something for every palate.
Varieties of natural cheese include:
-
Cheddar/Colby
-
Swiss
-
Pasta Filata or Italian cheeses, such as Mozzarella
-
String (most often made of Mozzarella)
-
Semi-soft, such as Monterey Jack
-
Edam and Gouda
-
Soft/Fresh, such as cream cheese
-
Soft ripened, such as Brie
-
Blue, such as Roquefort
-
Hard, such as Parmesan
Differences in natural cheeses result from the type of milk used, temperature,
humidity, length of aging and method of cutting, cooking and forming the curd.
