SCHREIBER FOODS ANNOUNCES CLOSING OF WAUKESHA PLANT

GREEN BAY, WI, April 24, 2002 -- Schreiber Foods, Inc. earlier today notified employees of plans to close the Waukesha, Wisconsin, cheese processing facility acquired from Beatrice Foods in 2000. Located at 770 N. Springdale Road, the plant employs approximately 170 people. There will be a 60 day transition period for most production areas. Separation packages including employee assistance programs and job services are being offered to all affected employees.

Built in 1958 by Milwaukee Cheese Company, the 202,000 square-foot facility is primarily a process cheese manufacturing facility for the foodservice industry. The company attributed the closing to excess regional processing capacity.

"We are always looking for ways to optimize quality and service for our customers, and minimize costs," said company spokeswoman Deborah Van Dyk. "We have determined that we have excess capacity in the Midwest, which forces us to close the Waukesha plant."

Headquartered in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Schreiber Foods, Inc. is a privately held company with sales over $1.5 billion, that manufactures and markets processed and natural cheese, and prepared entrees to the foodservice and retail markets. Its products are primarily sold through private label distribution programs. Schreiber has 43 sales offices across the nation and distributes its products from 22 facilities across the United States, Germany, Mexico, and Brazil.
