SCHREIBER FOODS ACQUIRES HILLTOP VALLEY DAIRY


GREEN BAY, Wis., Oct. 13, 2005 – Dairy leader Schreiber Foods today announced the acquisition of Hilltop Valley Dairy, a highly regarded customer-brand yogurt producer based in Richland Center, Wis. With this acquisition, Schreiber gains a strategic foothold in the fast-growing yogurt category.

In announcing the acquisition, Larry Ferguson, Schreiber’s President and Chief Executive Officer, said, “We’re very excited to be able to supply our customers with yogurt products. With Hilltop’s yogurt expertise and Schreiber’s scale and service capabilities, we’ll be able to serve our customers better than ever with an even broader product line.”

Hilltop President Dan LaValley is joining Schreiber as President of its new Yogurt Division. “We now have a platform for growth we only dreamed of on our own,” he said. “We’re looking forward to building additional yogurt production capabilities in the Schreiber network and earning the yogurt business of a much broader customer base.”

Further terms of the transaction, which is effective immediately, were not disclosed. Both companies are privately held.

Headquartered in Richland Center, Hilltop is a privately held dairy company with approximately 125 employees. Its products include blended, fruit-on-the-bottom, fat-free, portable, whipped, and drinkable yogurt, and sour cream.

Headquartered in Green Bay, Schreiber is a privately held dairy company with annual sales of $3 billion. Schreiber sells its products – which include process, natural, specialty and cream cheese and a range of other creamery products – primarily through customer-brand distribution programs. Schreiber has more than 4,000 employees working at sales, processing, distribution and administrative facilities in Brazil, Germany, India, Mexico and the United States.
